Emergency button was disabled in the cell where Gezer was held 2021-12-10 12:49:56   İSTANBUL - Veysi Eski, attorney of Garibe Gezer who died under suspicious circumstances in Kandıra Prison told that the emergency button in her cell was disabled.   Prisoner Garibe Gezer, who was being held in Kandıra No. 1 Type F Prison was subjected to sexual torture as well as systematic violence, died suspiciously in her cell. While the prison administration claimed that Gezer committed suicide, autopsy procedures were carried out in the absence of her lawyers.   While the cause of death was not determined in Gezer's preliminary autopsy report, the lawyers were prevented from entering the prison after Gezer's suspicious death. Following the ban of entry, the lawyers announced that they would keep a report and file a criminal complaint against the authorities. The lawyers, who were taken to Kandıra Prison after the reactions, met with their other clients.   Speaking to the Mezopotamya Agency (MA) about the visit in the prison, Veysi Eski, one of Gezer's lawyers, stated that they went to the hospital and talked to the prosecutor after learning that the autopsy was carried out without her lawyers. Eski said, "We asked why the autopsy was carried out in the absence of the lawyers. He said it was not mandatory. Yes it is not. But there is no obstacle in front of it as well. Particularly in such suspicious deaths, it is very important for the victim's lawyer to participate in the autopsy in terms of clearing the air."   FINDINGS INDICATE SHE WAS HANGED   Stating that they later received the preliminary autopsy report, Eski stated that the cause of death was not specified in the report and said, “This report is a temporary report. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined. However, when we examined the report, we saw that there was findings indicating she was hanged. The cause of death will be finalized when the final report comes."   SHE COULDN'T GET HERSELF BE HEARD   Stating that they spoke to other clients, Eski said: "They told me the reason for her death is the isolation system. They said no one could hear or know even if you die there. They told that Garibe was held there for a long time and she couldn't get herself be heard."   EMERGENCY BUTTONS DISABLED   Noting that they heard that the emergency buttons in her cell were disabled, Eski said: "This is a serious negligence.Because these buttons are the only way for the prisoners to communicate with the guards or prison administration in case of an emergency. Maybe this wouldn't have happened if the buttons were not disabled."   HER FRIENDS REALIZED SOMETHING WRONG AFTER AN HOUR   Stating that Gezer's friends realized that there was something wrong after an hour, Eski said: "They hollered at her from the next cell and she didn't answer. That's how they realized something was wrong and they informed the administration. The administration found out that she was dead."   KIŞANAK: THIS IS FEMICIDE   Eski conveyed his dialogue with Gültan Kışanak as follows: "Kışanak told me that this was a femicide. She said the prison administration knew about her pschological state and did not take any precautions and they sent her to her death on purpose."   AN INVESTIGATION MUST BE STARTED   Stating that the Ministry of Justice should conduct an effective investigation, Eski said: “No one is safe in prisons. Especially in Type F prisons where people are under isolation, they are left alone there with the state mind. In the deep psychological problems that people experience, the prison administration does not show an approach to heal these people in any way. These people should not be left alone. They need to be treated if necessary. Because after what happened to Garibe, after she was tortured and raped, keeping her in the same prison is a problem on its own. She was left alone and under the control of the people who done this to her."     MA / Mehmet Aslan
