Earthquake victims: The city was abandoned by state 2023-03-29 12:00:49 ADIYAMAN - Citizen Gülay Unutmaz, who was also affected by the flood after the earthquake, reminded the elections to be held on May 14, “The people know what to do. The city was abandoned by the state, we won't let it  forget our situation."   In Adıyaman, where great destruction was experienced by the earthquakes, the flood disaster that took place in the past days caused a new grievance to the earthquake survivors staying in the tents. Gülay Unutmaz, the earthquake survivor whose house in Adıyaman Yenimahalle was destroyed, said that she applied to the Adıyaman Governor's Office, especially AFAD, and that she tried to live with her family members in the cloth tent that the neighborhood headman gave them 34 days later. Unutmaz said that  their tents were flooded with the flood disaster and they were not given containers even though they had been asking for containers for days.   'TENT GOT THE WATER'   Noting that the tent got water after the flood, Unutulmaz said: "We have been dealing with the tent for hours when it rains. The inside of our tent has been wet for days. The tent is getting cloth and water. We went to the governor's office, made an application. We asked for a tent and container. They didn't give it, they said no. Water is dripping from 3 places, it's raining. The tent has been flooded since it rained. We are staying in the tent for 3 people. We bought the tent we lived in because no one was using it. For days, the village headman said that there was no tent. The state did not help us. For us, first and foremost, the people of Amed(Diyarbakır), Êlih(Batman), Rîha(Urfa), Wan(Van) and Colemerg(Hakkari) came to help us. They were the first to come to our help. Thanks to the means of our friends, we try to live in tents. Since we were not given tents for 34 days, we stayed in my sister's container with 15 people."   'PEOPLE KNOW WHAT TO DO ON MAY 14'   Noting that she lost her aunt, uncle, aunt's daughter and granddaughter in the earthquake, Unutmaz said: I had been dealing with funerals for days and that there was not even a single tent to offer our condolences. The elections to be held on May 14th, people should see and remember what we went through. We won't let the state forget this disaster. It did not even give tents to earthquake victims. The people go to the polls thinking about what they are going through. They saw everything. So many people lost their lives, the people know what to do. The city was abandoned by the state, we won't let it forget our situation.”   MA / Zerrin Sargut
