In the statement, it was reminded that the Journalists' Association of Turkey (TGC) declared 6 April, the day journalist Hasan Fehmi Bey was assassinated in 1996, as "Press Martyrs' Day" and in 2005 this day was changed to the Day of Murdered Journalists.   In the statement, it was pointed out that journalists who reveal the truth, especially in Kurdistan, have been targeted and murdered since then. The statement reads: "In the last five years, 15 journalists have been killed in Turkey's attacks on the Federated Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the cities of North and East Syria. Dozens of journalists, including Apê Musa (Musa Anter), Hrant Dink, Metin Göktepe, Abdi İpekçi, Nagehan Akarsel, Nazım Daştan, Cihan Bilgin, Gulistan Tara, Aziz Köylüoğlu, were murdered by power centres that were disturbed by the truth. Each massacre is an attack against the democratisation of this land. Although the truth is wanted to be killed with their murder, their legacy and ideas will always live on. We will walk in the footsteps of the murdered journalists, we will not leave their pens on the ground."
