Death toll rises in Iran: At least 544 killed, 10 thousand 681 detained

NEWS CENTER – Protests that began in Tehran and spread across Iran continue on their 15th day, with at least 544 people confirmed killed and 10 thousand681 detained.
 
Protests that started in Tehran are continuing across 186 cities in all 31 provinces of Iran. Demonstrations are ongoing at 585 locations nationwide. According to the latest data released by the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), which was founded by Iranian activists, the identities of 544 people killed during the protests have been confirmed.
 
Information shared on social media and provided by local residents indicates that many unidentified bodies remain in streets and morgues, suggesting the death toll may be higher.
 
NAMES OF THOSE KILLED
 
During ongoing protests, Ali Reza Seyyidi, Burhan Sayyidi, Salam Mirani, Ebrahim Ahmadpourian, Mohammad Zamani, Aida Heydari and Zahra Bahlolipour were reportedly killed by regime forces in Tehran last night. In protests held in other cities, Mahmoud Mousavi, Navid Salehi and Bayat Sobhani were also killed by Iranian security forces.
 
According to HRANA data, at least 10 thousand 681 people have been detained so far, while the exact number of those still in custody remains unknown.
 
FAMILY FORCED TO PAY ONE BILLION TOMANS
 
Reports from the country indicate that regime forces are demanding money from families in exchange for returning the bodies of those killed. In Kermanshah, the family of 17-year-old Amir Ali Heydari, who was killed by regime forces, was reportedly forced to pay one billion tomans to receive his body.
 
RISK OF EXECUTION
 
Iranian authorities are also attempting to suppress the protests through judicial pressure. Erfan Soltani, who was detained during the demonstrations, has been sentenced to death by Iran’s Revolutionary Court.
 
According to available information, officials contacted Soltani’s family and informed them that they would be allowed a final family visit on Wednesday (14 January) before the execution.
 
A social media campaign calling for an end to executions has been launched to stop Soltani’s execution and others facing the death penalty.
