ANKARA - Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, reacted to the attacks on Rojava and described this situation as an attempt to sabotage the Peace and Democratic Society Process.
Members of the Imrali Delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, Pervin Buldan, Mithat Sancar, and Faik Özgür Erol, a lawyer from the Asrin Law Office, issued a written statement yesterday regarding their meeting with Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imrali.
The delegation issued the following statement:
“On 17 January 2026, we held a meeting with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan on Imrali Island that lasted approximately two and a half hours. During the meeting, Mr. Öcalan stated that he remains committed to the Peace and Democratic Society Process and that the perspective of 27 February continues to be valid. Within this framework, he once again emphasized the importance of taking the necessary steps to advance the process.
The main agenda of the meeting was the developments taking place in Syria. Expressing deep concern over the clashes and escalating tensions, Mr. Öcalan described this situation as an attempt to sabotage the Peace and Democratic Society Process. He strongly emphasized that all problems in Syria can and must be resolved solely through dialogue, negotiation, and collective wisdom.
He stated that he is ready to fulfill his own responsibility in ensuring that this issue is addressed through dialogue and removed from the ground of conflict. In this regard, he reiterated his call for all actors and parties to play their constructive roles and to act responsibly and with care.
