Şêx Seîd's grandson: Kurds want freedom of Abdullah Öcalan

AMED - Bedri Fırat stated that the implementation of the "right to hope" and the release of political prisoners are important for the process to move forward, saying, "The Kurdish people want Mr Öcalan to be released, and this must be achieved. The responsibility that falls on the government's shoulders is to take practical steps."

The Peace and Democratic Society Process, initiated to resolve the Kurdish issue, continues. While discussions on the process are ongoing, the Kurdish public's priority agenda is the implementation of the "right to hope" decision regarding Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the securing of his freedom.

Bedri Fırat, grandson of Şêx Seîd (Sheikh Said), who defended both religious values and Kurdish identity and is seen as a resistance leader, shared his views on the matter.

Fırat stated that since Şêx Seîd, there have been attempts to achieve unity among Kurds, but this has not been possible so far due to the personal interests of some, and he drew attention to the importance of the consciousness that has emerged with Rojava. Stating that this awareness must be embraced, Fırat said that all Kurds must fulfil their responsibility to achieve unity, and that Abdullah Öcalan, in particular, has an important role to play in this.

'THE STATE'S RESPONSIBILITY IS PRACTICAL STEPS'

Referring to the process, Fırat stated that Abdullah Öcalan must be physically present among his people, in a free space, and said that the isolation policy pursued in İmralı demonstrates that Abdullah Öcalan's ideas have been embraced by the Kurdish people and the peoples of the world.

Fırat noted that the process initiated by Abdullah Öcalan continues, but that this alone is not sufficient. Stating that ensuring the "right to hope" and the release of political prisoners are among these steps, Fırat emphasised that informing the public of the locations of the graves of many historical figures in the Kurdish resistance, starting with his grandfather Şêx Seîd, is a similar demand.

Fırat added: "Today, the Kurdish people want practical steps to be taken and for the rhetoric to end. The Kurdish people want Mr Öcalan to be released; this must be achieved. The responsibility that falls on the government's shoulders is to take practical steps."
