ANKARA - Socialist youth reacted to the fact that Abdullah Öcalan's conditions have still not been improved, and stated that legal reforms will have a positive effect to the process.
Within the scope of the Peace and Democratic Society Process, which started with the call of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 27, the government and the state remain silent against the steps taken by the Kurdish Freedom Movement.
One of the most fundamental criticisms about the process is that Abdullah Öcalan, whom the Kurds accept as the "chief negotiator," still does not have his conditions for free work and living improved.
'LEGAL REFORMS WILL HAVE A POSITIVE EFFECT TO THE PROCESS'
Ekin Aygün, a member of the Young Socialists in Ankara, who noted that improving Abdullah Öcalan's conditions is not only a legal obligation, stated that recognizing Abdullah Öcalan's "right to hope" and ensuring his physical freedom is important for the process. He emphasized that they believe such a legal reform would "positively affect" the process.
"Improving Abdullah Öcalan's working and communication conditions is critically important for the transparency of this process. Clearly sharing his communications with the public through communication channels is among the important steps, as it will prevent disinformation and misinformation in the media," she said.
Ekin Aygün noted that the state's approaches could be interpreted cautiously and stated that the failure to meet the expected democratic rights and demands has led to hopelessness among the people.
“The freedom and rights of everyone living in this geography must be constitutionally guaranteed. At this point, our duty is to strive for the socialization of peace.”
‘ABDULLAH ÖCALAN MUST PROVIDE INFORMATION WITHOUT AN INTERMEDIARY’
Abdurrahman Zor, a reader of Yeni Demokrat Gençlik (YDG), recalling the ECHR decisions, stated that ensuring Abdullah Öcalan’s physical freedom is a necessity for the process to be conducted transparently.
Zor noted that under the current conditions, Abdullah Öcalan has limited ability both to access information and to have his statements objectively communicated to the outside, saying, “Therefore, for the process to be transparent and for both sides to properly express their demands, Abdullah Öcalan must be able to receive and provide information without an intermediary.”
'NO CONCRETE STEPS HAVE BEEN TAKEN'
DEV-GÜÇ member Yağmur Alaz Gülveren drew attention to the importance of improving Abdullah Öcalan's current conditions and taking concrete steps to communicate with the public in order to carry out the process in a healthy way, and criticized the fact that no steps have been taken yet. She said: "A process is being carried out in which we cannot get direct information from Chief Negotiator Abdullah Öcalan. Peace is achieved through improving Abdullah Öcalan's conditions and his release."
