AMED - French philosopher Catherine Malabou expressed her support for the Peace and Democratic Society Process in a letter to Abdullah Öcalan, saying, “You deserve to live as a free person after all these years, you indisputably deserve amnesty. Courage in the meantime, dear Apo.”

 

Support from prominent intellectuals, writers, philosophers and sociologists around the world continues to pour in for Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s February 27, 2025 call for Peace and Democratic Society, as well as the law passed by Parliament following the call. In a show of support, French philosopher Catherine Malabou has written a letter to be delivered to Abdullah Öcalan.

 

The letter Catherine Malabou sent to the İmralı Delegation for delivery to Abdullah Öcalan reads as follows: 

 

“Many among us, defenders of the dignity, freedom and recognition of the Kurds, from Turkey and beyond, are very happy to know that a procedure of granting civil rights to the ex members of PKK is actually happening. This is a great victory, due to your wise and brave decision to engage in a henceforth peaceful political process. 

 

‘DEMOCRACY MUST ALWAYS WIN’

 

Democracy must always win when and if possible. You have a lot of admirers in France, like me, who read you and are deeply interested in the type of political organization you are imagining and advocating for: democratic confederalism. The only intolerable thing is to know that you are maintained in jail. I hope that this inhuman situation will stop soon. You deserve to live as a free person after all these years, you indisputably deserve amnesty. Courage in the meantime, dear ‘Apo’."
