DEM Party co-chairs: Abdullah Öcalan must be released 2024-12-23 09:32:40 ADANA - DEM Party Adana, Mersin and Antalya provincial co-chairs demanded the release of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan by implementing the ECtHR's ruling on the right to hope. Evaluating the ongoing isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Adana, Antalya and Mersin provincial co-chairs of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) demanded that the isolation be ended and steps be taken towards the solution of the Kurdish issue. Demanding the implementation of the European Court of Human Rights' (ECtHR) ruling on the violation of the right to hope against PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, DEM Party Adana Provincial Co-Chair Seyfettin Aydemir said, "Isolation is a crime against humanity".   Emphasising that the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan is humanitarian, legal and constitutionally unacceptable, Aydemir said: "Turkey has really important problems. But the biggest obstacle to the solution of these problems is the Kurdish issue. Without solving the Kurdish issue, neither democracy nor the economy will improve in this country. Because all of Turkey's sources of income and budget have been spent on this dirty war for the last 30 years. Therefore, we believe that this problem should be solved immediately."   'LET ÖCALAN BE RELEASED'   Stating that the isolation has spread from İmralı to all prisons and society, DEM Party Antalya Provincial Co-Chair İhsan Nergiz said: "The isolation must be lifted as soon as possible and Mr Öcalan must be released."   Stating that the isolation continues, DEM Party Mersin Provincial Co-Chair Bedriye Kuş said that Abdullah Öcalan's meeting with his nephew Ömer Öcalan created expectations that the isolation would be lifted, but this did not happen.   'MR ÖCALAN MUST BE TAKEN AS AN INTERLOCUTOR'   Stating that the isolation policy is at the root of the problems in the country, Kuş said: "We demand that the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights be implemented as soon as possible and all political prisoners, especially Abdullah Öcalan, must be released. We also call out to the AKP government and the ruling party once again. We demand that Mr Abdullah Öcalan be released and Mr Öcalan be taken as an interlocutor for all revolutionary, democratic, leftist and socialist sections of the country."   MA / Abdulkadir Ayten-Hamdullah Yağız Kesen
