Chief Prosecutor Şahin asked for a political ban on 600 HDP members

ANKARA - The Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Public Prosecutor Bekir Şahin, who filed a closure case against the HDP, asked for a political ban on 600 HDP MPs in the indictment.

 
Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor Bekir Şahin filed a lawsuit at the Constitutional Court (AYM) for the closure of the People's Democratic Party (HDP). The indictment prepared with the claim that "HDP members aimed to disrubt and destroy the indivisible integrity of the state with statements and actions" was sent to the Supreme Court.
 
According to the news of Anadolu Agency (AA), in the indictment of the case filed by the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor Bekir Şahin, demanding the HDP to be closed, a political ban was asked for more than 600 HDP members.
 
According to Article 69 of the Constitution, the Constitutional Court, which will hear the case for closure, may decide to deprive the political party of the state aid partially or completely, depending on the severity of the actions in question, instead of permanent closure.
 
If the Constitutional Court determines that the party members, including the founders who are requested to have a political ban, cause the party to be permanently closed, these persons can not be founders, members or executives of another party for 5 years.
