The vigil against the Geothermal Power Plant (GPP) project planned by the US-based IGNIS H2 Energy Production Inc. in Xwarik village of Gimgim (Varto) district, Mûş (Muş), continued on its 47th day.

 

As part of the vigil initiated by the Youth Assembly of the Gimgim Ecology Platform, banners reading, “This land is our inheritance from our ancestors and a trust for future generations. We do not want GPP,” were displayed in Kurdish, Kirmanckî and Turkish.

 

The vigil was taken over by residents of Sofyan village carrying a banner that read: “Varto does not want geothermal energy. Do not touch my water, do not touch my land.”

 

Speaking during the gathering, Mehmet Doğan from the Bava Mansûr Ocak stated that the struggle against the GPP is continuing in various cities. Emphasizing that the resistance is growing through labour and solidarity, Doğan said: "We are trying to raise Varto's voice wherever we are."

 

A delegation led by Sedat Başkavak, Deputy Chair of the EMEP, also paid a solidarity visit to the vigil.
