AMED – Marking the anniversary of their killing, the DBP Women’s Assembly commemorated Sêvê Demir, Pakize Nayır and Fatma Uyar, stating: “We reaffirm our commitment to protecting the legacy of struggle they left behind and to never abandoning the search for truth and justice.”

 

The Women’s Assembly of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) issued a written statement on the anniversary of the killing of DBP Party Assembly) member Sêvê Demir, Free Women’s Congress (KJA) member Fatma Uyar, and Silopi People’s Assembly Co-Mayor Pakize Nayır. 

 

The statement underlined that despite the passage of ten years, justice has not been served and the truth behind the killings has not been revealed.

 

‘THREE WOMEN OF RESISTANCE’

 

The statement reads: “Our Party Assembly member Sêvê Demir, Silopi People’s Assembly Co-Mayor Pakize Nayır and Free Women’s Congress (KJA) member Fatma Uyar are three steadfast women who have taken their place in the memory and the line of resistance of the Kurdish women’s struggle. On the 10th anniversary of their killing, we commemorate them with respect, gratitude and longing.

 

They were killed on 4 January 2016, during a period when a curfew imposed on 14 December 2015 was still in effect in Silopi, as they were moving from the Karşıyaka neighborhood to the Ofis neighborhood. Despite the ten years that have passed, neither justice has been delivered nor the truth uncovered. Yet although their struggle was meant to be shrouded in darkness, it continues to live on—in memory, in the streets, and in the freedom march of women.”

 

‘WE WILL PROTECT THE LEGACY THEY LEFT’

 

The statement emphasized that the legacy of the three women continues to guide the Kurdish women’s movement: “Today, Sêvê’s unwavering will, Pakize’s strong bond with the people, and Fatma’s struggle woven with labor and sacrifice continue to light the way for the Kurdish women’s movement. They are not merely three names; they are the embodiment of the demand for equality, freedom and peace.

 

On the 10th anniversary of their killing, we once again commemorate our three women comrades with respect, gratitude and longing, and we reaffirm our pledge to protect the legacy of struggle they left behind and to never give up the pursuit of truth and justice."
