Four oppositions executed in Iran in the last 24 hours; seven others face imminent execution

NEWS CENTER – Amnesty International has announced that four opposition figures have been secretly executed in Iran in the last 24 hours, whilst at least seven protesters and opposition figures are at “immediate risk of execution”.

Diana Eltahawy, Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the organisation, called on the Iranian authorities to immediately halt all executions. The statement noted that there are serious concerns regarding the fate of Vahid Bani Amerian, Ebulhassan Muntazer and five young detainees sentenced to death in connection with the January 2026 protests.

Babak Alipur, Puya Gobadi, Akbar Daneşvarkar and Muhammad Taghavi Sangdehi were secretly executed without their families or lawyers being informed. It was noted that those executed and those at risk of execution had been convicted following “confessions” extracted under torture and unfair trials. The statement emphasised that the Iranian regime uses the death penalty to suppress dissent and intimidate society, whilst calling on the international community to increase pressure on Tehran.

Following the “Jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)” resistance that began in 2022, Iranian authorities launched a wave of executions. According to Amnesty International, thousands of people have been executed following trials that were clearly unfair.
