The body of the murdered HDP member Deniz Poyraz was taken from the cemetery directorate and taken to the family home. HDP co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar are attending the funeral ceremony.

 

The family, relatives and party members went to the Cemetery Directorate in Tepecik neighbourhood in Konak district to receive mortal remains of Deniz Poyraz who was killed in an armed attack against the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) headquarter in Izmir yesterday. Family members and party members organized a religious ceremony.

 

Mother Fehime Poyraz said that “May God make the killer suffer the same torture as he did to my daughter. May his mother feel what I feel now. I have not cursed anyone in my life, but my heart is in great agony, I hope so is his mother's. People like Deniz do not die, one Deniz is gone, yet thousands of Deniz will come. How lucky am I to be Deniz's mother. How could a woman be tortured that much? You, fascist murderer. Why on earth did you do this to my daughter? God damn you; I hope you don't find rest.”

 

Poyraz's coffin, shouldered by women, was taken to Bağkuyu neighbourhood, where her family resides, accompanied by applause.

 

The people gathered at the entrance of the neighbourhood and marched towards the family house with the slogans of ‘Şehid namirin’ (Martyrs are immortal). The crowd gathered in front of the family home as Poyraz's body was brought in.

 

Masses then marched towards the Kadifekale Mosque, where the funeral ceremony will be held, joined by mother Fehime Poyraz, HDP co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar and party members.     

 

Thousands of people continue to wait by chanting the slogans "Deniz Poyraz is immortal" and "HDP is the people, the people are here".

 

Poyraz was buried in Buca Kaynaklar Cemetery after a proper ceremony held at Kadifekale Mosque at 17.00.
