ANKARA - Noting that the AKP is stuck in Syria, HDP's Hişyar Özsoy said, "There will be more difficult days ahead for Turkey if it insists on its destructive role."

After the last Cabinet meeting, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan gave the signal for an operation against North East Syria. After Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also increased the possibility of an operation against North East Syria in the short term yesterday.

Minister of National Defense (MSB) Hulusi Akar was also included in the statements regarding the cross-border operation put forward by the government. Akar said, “Whatever needs to be done to protect our rights and interests will be done in the same way when the time comes.” It was also noteworthy that these statements came after Erdogan's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi. It was stated that the government is disturbed by the reflections that the USA and Russia have an agreement and dialogue in Syria.

'ERDOĞAN WENT TO RUSSIA IN A RUSH'

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Foreign Relations Co-spokesperson Hisyar Özsoy evaluated the situation Turkey is in in Syria. Pointing out that President Erdogan of the AKP came back from Sochi by gaining a little more time, Özsoy said, "There are serious attacks in Idlib by both Russia and Syria."

Reminding that during Erdogan's visit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that they would insist that Turkey abide by its commitments, Özsoy said, “As far as we can tell, Turkey has made some promises to Russia and has not fulfilled it. Recently, there have been many military operations to the areas occupied by Turkey, including Afrin. By both Russian and Syrian forces. They went there desperately to gain time. It was said that natural gas was used for trade. But if you notice, Erdogan was alone and did not even include delegations. We do not know what kind of negotiations were made in the meetings he held alone. It is obvious that he cannot trust even his closest relatives.”

AGREEMENT BETWEEN USA - RUSSIA

Underlining that there are serious developments in Syria on the Idlib issue and that there is an agreement between the USA and Russia to end the war in Syria, Özsoy said, “Turkey may soon find the USA and Russia against its policies that prolong this war and deepen the contradictions. Syrian authorities began to speak loudly for Turkey to leave the region. It seems that there is an agreement between the great powers in Syria. This has significantly reduced Turkey's range of action.”

'NO NATO SUPPORT'

Reminding that Turkey has been following a policy in Syria for the last 10 years by taking advantage of the contradictions of the USA and Russia, Özsoy said: “As a NATO member, this tactical initiative of Turkey has damaged its relations with both NATO and the United States. It doesn't seem likely that this will be fixed with Erdogan. We were at the NATO Parliament sessions in Lisbon recently. The NATO Secretary General was also there. The Turkish delegation stated that they were there to balance the refugees and Russia in Idlib. However, they do not have such enthusiastic NATO support behind them. During the Syrian interventions, they also came face to face with NATO forces from time to time. Therefore, there is a shrinking Syrian ground for Erdogan. If he is logical and smart, he should act with the logic of profit wherever it turns. Maybe it will try to play a constructive role in establishing a new political equation in Syria. But if he persists in the destructive role he has played so far, more difficult days are ahead of Turkey."
