NEWS CENTER - Stating that the statements of Erdoğan on behalf of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan is deepening the isolation, HDP Spokesperson Ebru Günay said: "Isolation must be lifted and Öcalan must speak on his behalf."

No news from PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan was heard since the interrupted phone call he made with his brother on March 25, 2021. The applications his family and lawyers submit, are rejected or left unanswered. AKP Chair Receğ Tayyip Erdoğan has been speaking on behalf of Öcalan whom no one has heard of for 10 months now. Erdoğan has twice mentioned his name in the last 2 weeks. On January 12 Erdoğan said 'The one in Edirne will be held to account by the one in İmralı', referring to Öcalan and former HDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş, and later Erdoğan answered a journalist in a TV show and said: "You should ask this to Öcalan."

These statements of Erdoğan in a time when no one has heard from Öcalan for 10 months, increases concerns in the Kurdish community.Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Spokesperson and one of Öcalan's lawyers Ebru Günay spoke to Mesopotamia Agency regarding the statements of Erdoğan. Günay said: "It's not their place to speak on behalf of Mr. Öcalan. Öcalan must be allowed to speak on his behalf."

ISOLATION DEEPENS

Underlining that the absolute islation in İmralı Island Prison is deepening by the day, Günay said: "There is an isolation that deepens violating law and morality. These statements indicates how deep the isolation is. These statements are deepening the isolation further. We need concrete information. The society is prevented from being informed about what's going on in İmralı and the health status of the prisoners in it. The Kurdish community, without a doubt, is following the developments on Mr. Öcalan. The political people in Turkey focuses on İmralı no matter what."

HE IS SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF MR. ÖCALAN

Stating that it's not anybody's place to speak on behalf of Öcalan, Günay said: "Erdoğan who is responsible for the isolation is the last person that can claim Mr. Öcalan had said something. He is first hand responsible for this isolation as the president of this country."

ISOLATION MUST BE LIFTED

Underlining that the isolation must be lifted, Günay said: "What this government needs to do is to remove this isolation and implement the law. Instead of making apalling statements, they should remove this isolation immediately and allow Mr. Öcalan to speak to his lawyers and family so that the people can hear what he has in mind from Öcalan himself. This is the only way. To create the perception that some talks are being held in İmralı is immoral and it deepens the isolation. Öcalan has a reality. There is a reality that Öcalan is resisting isolation in İmralı. No one should forget this reality."
