NEWS CENTER - MXDŞ Deputy Co-Chair Heso İbrahim stated that the KDP and Turkey are targeting the status of Shengal and said, "It is the sons and daughters of Yazidis who are protecting Shengal. That's why they fear Shengal's status and power."

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), which cooperates with Turkey in its cross border operation against the Federated Kurdistan Region, is also fueling the attacks on Shengal. One day after AKP-KDP's attacks on Zap, Metîna and Avaşîn on April 17, the Iraqi army attackted Shengal and Êzidxan Asayish on April 18. The Iraqi army, which had to retreat in the face of the resistance of the people, continues its presence and threats in Shengal.

The Prime Minister of the Federated Kurdistan Region, Mesrur Barzani, who formed a war alliance with Turkey, targeted Shengal on the basis of the Ankara-backed Baghdad-Hewler agreement dated October 9, 2020 as he admitted in a statement he made after the Cabinet Meeting on 11 May.

Shengal Democratic Autonomous Council Co-chair Heso Îbrahim made evaluations about the attacks and threats against Shengal and the attitude of the KDP.

THEY ATTACKED SHOUTING ALLAHUEKBER

Pointing out that the attacks on the Federated Kurdistan Region and the attacks on Shengal are linked to each other, Ibrahim said that both attacks were the plans of the AKP and KDP. Stating that the lands of Kurdistan are being sold under the name of "trades", Ibrahim said that Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazimi was also involved in the plan. Ibrahim said, This is why they insist on attacking Shengal. They are afraid of the forces of Shengal. There are foreign soldiers in the Iraqi army. They attacked Dihole ahouting Allahuekber. They reminded me of ISIS. Yazidis are afraid of experiencing the same thing again. That's why they are uncomfortable with the presence of the Iraqi army in their lands."

THE PROMISE TO TURKEY

Condemning Masrour Barzani, targeting Shengal, Ibrahim said, "Barzani wants the Iraqi Parliament's plan to work. This will not benefit either Iraq or the Yazidis. With this agreement, they want to complete what ISIS left unfinished. They want to displace everyone in Shengal. There are promises Barzani made to Turkey. In order to fulfill this promise, it wants and demands that the Iraqi army once again attack Shengal. Now they are hopeless. They want to fulfill their promise through the Iraqi government."

'THEY ARE TARGETING THE STATUS OF SHENGAL'

Stating that the KDP and Turkey are targeting the status of Shengal, Îbrahim said, “It is the sons and daughters of the Yazidis who are protecting Shengal. That's why they fear Shengal's status and power. They will no longer have benefits if Shengal gains status. That's why they attack our warriors. They know that if Shengal gets a status, they will be held accountable and prosecuted for the massacre in 2014."

'WE WILL RESIST UNTIL THE END'

Emphasizing that they will resist the attacks, Ibrahim said: “Our duty is to protect our people. Our greatest duty is to resist. We have no choice but to resist. We will resist until the end. We will not submit to either the KDP or Turkey.”

'KURDS MUST TAKE ACTION'

Emphasizing that the Kurds have a responsibility to take action against the occupation, Ibrahim said, “They will not get results. We defend human rights, justice, rights and law. International powers continue to remain silent.  Where are those rights defenders while all these attacks are happening? Our call to the Kurdish people is for them to embrace this resistance. They are targeting all Kurdistan, not just Shengal. There is war at all four parts. Kurds must wake up and take action."
