DIYARBAKIR - The police prevented the funeral of Mehmethan Yıldız, who lost his life during the curfew in Şırnak and stopped the people from paying their respects to the family.

 

The remains of Civil Defense Units (YPS) member Mehmethan Yıldız, who lost his life during the curfew declared on March 14, 2016 in Şırnak, was released to his family after being identified 6 years after his death. Yıldız's remains was exhumed from the cemetery of the nameless in the village of Milga Şantiye and brought to his hometown, Kulp district of Diyarbakır.

 

The family wanted to lay the remains of Yıldız to rest in the New Cemetery in the city center. The police, who stopped the family at the entrance of the district, did not allow the remains to be laid to rest in the district on the grounds that "the place of burial is not clear in the document". The family then wanted to bury the remains in Yeniköy Cemetery in Bağlar district. However, the police said that they would not be allowed to bury their son here for similar reasons.

 

POLICE STOPPED THE PEOPLE FROM PAYING THEIR RESPECTS

 

After waiting for hours, Yılmaz's remains was taken to the rural neighborhood of Hacana in Kulp. Yılmaz was laid to rest under police blockade. Only family members were allowed to attend the funeral. Family members stated that the people who came to pay their respects were also prevented by the police.
