President of the AKP, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, made a statement at the AFAD Presidency, which he visited due to the 7.7-magnitude earthquake, the epicenter of which was Maraş and affected 10 provinces. Stating that they were shaken by the biggest disaster after the 1939 Erzincan earthquake tonight, Erdoğan said: “10 more governors who will work with them have been assigned to our 10 provinces that were affected by the earthquake, next to our current governorships. Currently, 9 thousand personnel carry out search and rescue operations, and this number is constantly increasing with those who reach the region from outside. So far, 912 of our citizens have lost their lives and 5,385 of our citizens have been injured."
