İZMİR - Cemal Tanhan, who was released after suffering a stroke, died 43 days later.

Another prisoner died on his deathbed after being released. Cemal Tanhan (68), a seriously ill prisoner for 30 years who has been held in Bolu Type F Closed Prison, was taken to Bolu İzzet Baysal State Hospital after he had a stroke on October 23, and from there he was transferred to the General Surgery Department of Eskişehir City Hospital on October 27. Tanhan, whose release was decided on November 6, died 43 days later.

Tanhan's family and relatives set out for Eskişehir to collect the body. The family stated that the body will lay to rest in Izmir.

TANHAN WAS NOT RELEASED DESPITE 4 APPLICATIONS

Cemal Tanhan (68), who had been imprisoned in Bolu Type F Closed Prison for 30 years, was taken to Bolu İzzet Baysal State Hospital on 23 October after suffering a stroke. Due to the inadequacy of the hospital there, he was transferred to Eskişehir City Hospital General Surgery Department on October 27. Tanhan, whose release was postponed on November 6 upon the application, was intubated on November 13. Tanhan was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Tanhan, who lost his ability to speak during the treatment process, also developed pneumonia and his lungs collected water.

His daughter, Ayşe Tanhan, told Mezopotamya Agency that she had talked to her father's doctor about his health on November 27. Ayşe Tanhan said: "My father's doctor said that they  removed the water accumulated in his lungs so they would change the medications he takes,  if the treatment goes well, they would try to wake him up, in that way, maybe they could transfer him. But my father has been receiving treatment for a long time. His condition is getting worse every day because he is in prison. His treatment started late because he was ill. Maybe if he had been treated early and had been outside, he would not have become like this."

The Human Rights Association (IHD) Ankara Branch applied 4 times in 2023 for Tanhan's release; however, no results were obtained. The first application was made on January 12, 2023 by the Prison Detention Houses (CTE) and the Turkish Grand National Assembly Human Rights Investigation Commission; The second application was submitted to CTE and the Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission on April 7, 2023; The third application is to the same institutions on June 23, 2023; The fourth application was made to the CTE, the Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission, the Prison Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Health on October 9, 2023; however, no results were obtained and Tanhan was not released.
