ANKARA - Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, who played the role of mediator after Erdogan's remarks on Syria, said that Turkey and Syria have reached an agreement on a meeting between the two countries, but no date has been set yet. 

 

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein made statements on the relations between Turkey and Syria and the recent comments made by AKP Chair and President Tayyip Erdogan.  Zaharova pointed to Erdogan's remarks and said that they were pleased with them and believed that both sides would take practical steps. Stating that the resolution of the problem between Turkey and Syria is vital for the region, "That is why we encourage our partners to maintain contacts in every possible way" Zaharova said. 

 

'AGREEMENT REACHED'

 

Speaking at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Leaders Summit in the US capital Washington, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said that Iraq is working to normalize relations between the two countries. "Iraq wants to bring Syria and Turkey together. In this context, a preliminary agreement has been reached to hold a meeting in Baghdad, but no date has been set. We will also set a date" Hussein said.
