Poets, academics and journalists detained for 2 days

NEWS CENTER - Many people, including journalists, writers, poets, cartoonists and academics, have been detained for 2 days.

Many people were detained in house raids in Amed (Diyarbkarı), Şirnex (Şırnak), Dêrsim (Tunceli), Bedlîs (Bitlis), Riha (Urfa), Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Çanakkale and many other cities yesterday. The Ministry of Interior announced that a total of 231 people were detained in house raids conducted in 31 cities. Many of those detained as part of investigations launched by prosecutors' offices in different cities are still in custody.
 
JOURNALISTS AND WRITERS
 
The following names were detained within the Eskişehir based investigation: Roza Metina (President of Mezopotamya Women Journalists Association), Erdoğan Alayumat (Journalist), Tuğce Yılmaz (Journalist), Bilge Aksu (Journalist), Ahmet Sümbül (Journalist), Bilal Seçkin (Journalist), Mehmet Ücar (Journalist), Havin Derya (Journalist), Suzan Demir (Journalist), Abdurrahman Aydın (Academician/Writer), Ardın Diren (Translator-Director), Doğan Güzel (Cartoonist), Hicri İzgören (Poet), Ömer Barasi (Translator-Writer), Baver Yoldaş (Pirtûkakurdî Coordinator) and Emrah Kelekçiler (Photographer).
 
There are also detention warrants for different names within the scope of the investigation. Journalists and writers are currently being held in police stations in the cities where they were detained. It is not known whether they will be transferred to Eskişehir.
 
ŞIRNEX: 23 DETENTIONS
 
Within the scope of the investigation initiated by Şirnex Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, many houses were raided yesterday and today. According to the information obtained, a total of 23 people have been detained so far. Some of the detained people are as follows: Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Provincial Assembly member Müzeyyen İnan, Zinar Elinç (17), Halil Kızılcan, Ömer Basan, Amed Sevim, Kadri İrtegun, Salih Urgen, Hakkı Belge and Nızar Akbaş.
 
DÊRSIM: 4 ARRESTED, 4 DETAINED
 
Many houses have been raided in Dêrsim since yesterday. Many people were detained during the raids on the grounds of trustee protests. Şiyar Ataş, Aynur Can, Veli Akyol, Member of Health and Social Service Workers' Union (SES) Dêrsim Branch Enes Boran, were detained yesterday and were arrested on the grounds of "resisting the police", "damaging public property" and "violating Law No. 2911 on Demonstrations and Marches".
 
Çağdaş Kayaoğlu, Murat Karaboğa, Rıdvan Gül and Aykut Aksakallı were detained during house raids this morning.
 
AMED
 
Many people were detained in Amed yesterday and today. Peyas (Kayapınar) co-mayor Cengiz Dündar, Yenişehir Municipality Council member Siyabend Demir and Nusret Akın were detained along with journalists.
 
It is learned that they were detained through the investigation of Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and were taken to Ankara.
 
Today, 6 people are detained in house raids in Farqîn (Silvan) district. Some detained people are as follows: Hüseyin Melik, Eşref Gensür and Mehmet Can Evren.
 
ISTANBUL
 
One of the founders of the Human Rights Association (IHD) Nimet Tanrıkulu, Deputy Co-Chair for Labour Commission of DEM Party Sevtap Akdağ, İsa Özğan, Eyüp Ok, Mazlum Avcı, İsmail Toptamur, Necip Bingöl, Bahattin Bingöl, Halis Kandilci, Faysal Özdaş, Hamza Kaan, Leyla Doğan, Fersende Aksoy and Mehmet Yaşar Abatan were detained in house raids in Istanbul.
 
ÇANAKKALE
 
In house raids in Çanakkale, 11 young people, DEM Party Gökçeada District Co-Chair Bedirhan Şeker, party executive Savaş Sarıbulak and 2 unidentified people were detained.
 
MÊRDÎN
 
Mehmet Şimdi (40), Mehmet Şimdi (22), Mehmet Nur Şimdi (22), Medine Şimdi (20), Roni Şimdi (17), Hevidar Taş, Serhat Aktaş, Arif Elban and Arife Elban were detained in house raids in Artuklu district of Mêrdîn. The detainees are being held at the Provincial Security Directorate. It is learned that the detentions were made due to trustee protests.
 
RIHA
 
Former DEM Party Karaköprü district co-chair Ulaş Çoban, Kubilay Yıldız, Ayfer Haykır and Mehmet Demir were detained in house raids across Riha yesterday.
 
MERSIN, ADANA, IZMIR
 
Muhammet Ayten, Mehmet Can Kızıltaş, Tamer Aslan, Nujiyan Ezer, Mehdiye Çiçekdağ, İlhan Bal, Bilal Sakmak, Gülistan Ötlaş and Berfin Hacer Çiçekdağ were detained during house raids in Tarsus ditrict of Mersin. 
 
DISK Mersin branch chair Kemal Göksoy was detained in Akdeniz district.
 
Lawyer Şiar Rişvanoğlu was detained in Adana.
 
Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) member Sezgin Zevkibol detained in Izmir.
 
ANKARA
 
DISK/Genel-İş Chair Remzi Çalışkan detained
 
MANISA
 
Turan Temel, Şehriban Tayfan, Kerem Yalçınkaya and Gülbahar Bulut were detained in house raids in Turgutlu district of Manisa. The reason for the detention was stated to be a Newroz event in Turgutlu.
 
BEDLÎS
 
More than 10 people were detained within the scope of the investigation conducted by Bitlis Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Detainees are still in police custody.
 
ÇANAKKALE
 
15 people who were detained in house raids in Çanakkale yesterday were released with judicial control measures.
