NEWS CENTER - Euphrates Canton Energy Council has restored elecricity to Kobani and some villages after 4 months of work.
Tishreen (Tişrîn) Dam, which meets most of the electricity needs of the Euphrates Canton, was out of service due to the attacks launched by Turkey and the Syrian National Army (SMO) on 8 December 2024. Many cities, especially Kobani (Kobanê), were left without electricity and water.
Despite all the difficulties, the Euphrates Canton Energy Council's search for alternative solutions yielded results and Kobani and its villages received electricity after 4 months. Speaking to Hawar News Agency (ANHA), Welîd Ciman, Co-Chair of the Euphrates Canton Energy Council, stated that Turkey and the SMO targeted the Tishreen Dam, Sirin (Sirîn) Water Station and infrastructure facilities in Kobani. Pointing out that the 66th power line was broken as a result of the attacks, Welîd said that 360 villages in Kobani and 300 villages in Sirin were completely cut off due to the power cut.
EFFORTS YIELDED RESULTS
Welîd stated that his teams worked hard to bring electricity to the cities and villages for 4 months and underlined that their work did not always reach the desired result due to the ongoing attacks. Stating that the historical resistance in Tishreen Dam gave them a tremendous motivation to repair the power lines, Welîd said, "For 4 months, our peoples in the region never left us alone despite being without electricity and water, and they helped us to continue our work. I salute the resistance of the peoples on this occasion. Our people have been tolerating the unfavourable conditions for a long time. At the moment, electricity has reached Kobanê and some villages."
Stating that they are trying to repair other lines in order to provide electricity to all rural areas of Kobani and Sirin, Welîd said that the electricity delivered is temporary and they need to work more to repair the power lines completely. Pointing out that the electricity provided at the moment is temporary, Welîd said, "Electricity to the public is currently being provided temporarily in the areas where the line system is installed. At the moment, electricity does not reach the areas where the power lines are underground, and reconstruction of power lines is required for the regions where such lines are located."
