ŞIRNEX - Speaking at the DBP congress in Cizîr, DEM Party MP Newroz Uysal Aslan said, "Our demand for Mr Öcalan's physical freedom will not change. The Kurdish people will not look sincerely at the steps to be taken without the realisation of freedom."

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) held its 2nd Ordinary Congress in Cizîr (Cizre) district of Şirnex (Şırnak) with the slogan "We are building a free society with our organisation". In the congress held in the garden of Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party building, banners were unfurled with the slogans "Socialism cannot be realised without women's freedom", "We started young, we will succeed young", "Jin, jiyan azadî (Woman, life, freedom)".

Speaking at the congress that started with a minute of silence, DBP Party Assembly (PM) Member Berivan Helen Işık said, "Mr Abdullah Öcalan made a historic call. This call was in the spirit of this process. For this reason, we need to be involved in this process with our organisation. There are two main items that are important in this process. One of them is our organisation and the second is our training. Without our education, we cannot have organisation, so we need to participate in the process by carrying out both together. For this reason, these congresses are important for us to renew ourselves and our mentality."

EMPHASIS ON 'FREEDOM'

Şirnex MP Newroz Uysal Aslan, pointing to Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's "Call for Peace and Democratic Society", said: "After the meeting with the President Erdogan, a meeting with the Ministry of Justice was expected to take place. However, the Kurdish people are still waiting. A package will come to the Parliament this week, but it is not known whether this package will include items related to the process or what will be in it. The Kurdish people support this process, but if there is a policy of denail and annihilation, if people in Cizîr cannot hold condolences, if unlawful practices continue in prisons, the steps to be taken at this point are clear. We were physically demanding the freedom of Mr Öcalan before this process started. This will never change, the Kurdish people will not look sincerely at the steps to be taken before freedom of Mr Öcalan.

Aynur Elcioglu and Bager Askin were elected as DBP Cizîr District Co-chairs. The congress ended with halays.
