ANKARA- Rapzan Belagat who attracted attention with the song 'Katilimi Tanıyorum' ( I know my killer) stating the rappers today are presented as dissidents, said: " But what they say actually is another thing. They are promoting a way of life that actually is favoured by the sovereigns."Rap music, which emerged in the 1970s as a way of expressing the rebellion of African immigrants, became widespread throughout the world.Rap music which has a wide range of listeners in Turkey, have drifted away from its essence in time but some artists like Rapzan Belagat are still producing protest rap. Rapzan Belagat drew attention with the album 'No Pasaran' of 16 songs.

Rapzan Belagat who defines himself as a socialits rapper from Dersim, told about his music and what it means in Turkey To Mezopotamya Agency (MA).

Rapzan Belagat who said he thinks of the song ' Katilimi Tanıyorum' as the boy who screamed ' The king is naked'  who walked among the people with his invisible oufit, said: "I did not say anything new actually. I just narreted what everbody say a little louder and stronger."

'MARGINALIZED BECAUSE THEY ARE SINGULARIZED'

Rapzan Belagat who evaluated the images of his video clip stated that the images are marginalized because they are singularized and said: "There always is a massacre, a murder, violence. You know as Ulrike Meinhoff once said 'If one person is throwing rocks against the government, it may considered to be a crime, but if a whole society is throwing rocks,it is a political act.' And music is the best way to express this. These things are happening on a daily bases. The fact that the images of those murders and massacres are being put out of sight does not make those acts dissappear."

'WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE ONES WHO ABANDON YOU TO HUNGER'

Commenting on the racist comments made about the video clip of the song 'Katilimi Tanıyorum', Rapzan Belagat said: " If ı wrote those lyrics, made that song, that video and no one was disturbed by it, that's when i would be disturbed. If the stone you're throwing is not worthy of a throwing, why would you throw stones? The sovereigns use every possible way to pump up the hatred. Tv shows, sports, music..  Those who starve says we antagonize their "flag", their "nation". No one antagonizes your flag or your nation. We are talking about the ones who abandon you to hunger!"

'THEY PRESENT SOME RAPPERS AS DISSIDENTS'

Rapzan Belagat who says rap music is one of the genres that is being listened to worldwide, but it is open to criticism as well said: " In the times of political process being dominant, popular genres tend to pop up.  I see the rappers in Turkey these days, they focus on drugs and gangs in the ghetto life. The severeigns does not only  manage  the politics but also  they manage the perception of the society with music, cinema, advertisements, sports. See, those rappers are being presented as dissidents. What they actually say is another thing. They are promoting a life style what the sovereigns actually crave."

'THESE ARE WHAT THEY WANT TO BE HEARD'

Rapzan Belagat who stated that the people around him does not know he is engaged in Rap music  said: "My upstairs neighbor have just learned that I am engaged in rap music recently. If I was as known as the other rappers in Turkey, they would bomb the hell out of my neighborhood. If the rappers in the market are very well known and the government is not disturbed, I happen to think that is what the sovereigns want people to hear. For instance, a rapper in Turkey have recieved a plaque in a police night! This is unheard of in the history of Rap music. This is a first. You are creating a music ,liberating the streets and you go recieve a plaque from a police, in the police night..I control my legal status twice a week to see if they filed a suit against me!"

Rapzan Belagat stated that Rap music entered Turkey with a nationalist discourse, though by nature it is anti-capitalist and anti- fascist.
