ANKARA - It was stated that political prisoners on an indefinite and non-rotating hunger strike in Ereğli Prison were put in solitary confinement.

The indefinite 10 day rotating hunger strike launched by political prisoners on October 4 for against violations of rights and severe isolation conditions in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison was turned into an indefinite non-alternating hunger strike on November 16. It was learned that the prisoners who went on hunger strike were put in solitary confinement.

'WE ARE IN FEAR OF OUR LIVES'

Mehmet Can Yiger, who is on hunger strike in prison in Ereğli Prison, said the following in a phone call with his family: “We have friends who are on hunger strike and their situation is getting worse day by day. Our hunger strike struggle against violations of rights here is getting bigger day by day. The prison forbids us to greet each other and speak in Kurdish. They are trying to isolate us. They started to keep us prisoners on hunger strike on a separate floor. They took the prisoners on hunger strike into solitary confinement in one floor to prevent the hunger strike from spreading to other prisoners. We can't see anyone else right now. The new cells are all under construction and they had us clean it and put us there by force. We are in fear for our lives under this isolation. If anything happens to us, the prison is responsible."
