ANKARA – AKP Chair and President Erdoğan defended the restriction of access to Instagram, saying, "We are facing a digital fascism."

AKP Chair and President Tayyip Erdoğan evaluated current developments at the "AK Party Human Rights Training Program". Referring to the restriction of access to the virtual media account Instagram, Erdoğan said: "At this point, we are witnessing that social media companies behave like a mafia in every issue that touches their interests. We are faced with a digital fascism that cannot even tolerate the photos of Palestinian martyrs and bans them instantly, and markets this as freedom. Criminal and terrorist networks are making the propaganda they want on these channels. But these companies have not taken any steps to prevent victimization even though they have every opportunity. The care they show in complying with the rules in the US and Europe is deliberately withheld when it comes to Turkey. We have met many times before, but we could not establish the necessary cooperation."
