Ministry of Justice announces 21 more prisons built in 2025

ANKARA - Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç said 11 prisons are under construction and projects for 21 prisons are being studied.
 
Discussions on the 2025 budget, which was submitted to Parliament with the signature of AKP Chair and Presiden Tayyip Erdoğan are continuing at the Planning and Budget Commission. Today, the Ministry of Justice's budget of 280 billion 275 million 802 thousand liras, which has doubled two and a half times compared to last year, is being discussed. 
 
PRISONS
 
Making a presentation at the meetings, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated that there are 406 prisons in Turkey. Tunç praised the prisons, where the funeral of a prisoner takes place almost every day, as "structures suitable for the modern execution regime".
 
32 PRISONS TO BE BUILT
 
Tunç stated that 11 prisons are under construction and 21 prison projects are being studied for 2025.
 
CHP MP Mahmut Tanal reacted to Tunç by saying "Open factories, not prisons".
 
Tunç did not provide information on the number of ill prisoners or number of prisoners who lost their lives.
