RIHA - PYD Co-chair Xerîb Hiso said that they are preparing for the talks with Damascus and are trying to form a joint delegation, "We do not have a centry to lose. If we are united, they will have to accept our will," he says.
The 13 year civil war in Syria entered a new phase with the fall of the Assad regime on December 8. While discussions on how the new Syria will be shaped are ongoing, the steps to be taken by the Kurds of North and East Syria are gaining importance. The statement made by Mazlum Abdi, the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), on Ronahî TV last night regarding possible talks with Damascus and the delegations to be formed has caused widespreat repercussions. The latest developments and discussions have led to questions suc as "When will the delegations go to Damascus? Who will take part in this delegation? Will the Kurds particioate with a single delegation?"
Democratic Union Party (PYD) Co-Chair Xerîb Hiso spoke to Mezopotamya Agency (MA) about the preparations and discussions regarding the upcoming talks with Damascus.
'WE ARE MAKING PREPARATIONS FOR THE TALKS'
Pointing out that chaos continues in Syria, Xerîb Hiso said: “All peoples have concerns due to the chaos. HTS has established a regime and controls the Syrian capital. International powers support this. We are also working hard and holding meetings. We are preparing for the meeting (Damascus). There is no international involvement yet. There is nothing practical and now there is only one centralized flag. One regime left and another regime came. The old regime was nationalist. This new regime is both nationlaist and Islamist. We are against it and our system is a democratic system. The delegations will meet soon. SDF General Commander Mazlum Abdi also said 'we are having some military talks' byt he did not mention political talks. The delegations will go back and forh to Damascus. After a meeting, broader evaluations can be made."
'LET ENKS ALSO COME AND PARTICIPATE'
Stressed that the Kurds should open a new page in Syria among themselves said Xerîb Hiso and added: "The past is over and we should start a new process. There is a big difference between 10 days ago and now. Kurds should go to Damascus as one. If we are divided we will lose. We need to leave everything aside and look ahead. Our views must be united. Our priority must be the interst of the Kurds. Delegations will go, but it is not clear when. The PYD supports the participation of all Kurds is the talks. We want to form a united and joint delegation. If we do not do this, we cannot protect our gains. The delegation will include the PYD and other parties. Let the ENKS also come and participate. This is created with practical steps. Continuing the conflicts of the past will not benefit anyone. We do not have a centry to lose. If we are united, they will have to accept our will."
'THERE MUST BE A DEMOCRATIC SYRIA'
Reminding that there is a democratic government in North and East Syria, Xerîb Hiso continued as follows: "There is a system where peoples live together. This must be applied to all of Syria. This democratic system is the future of Syria. Damascus is at the center of it. Our system is the most reasonble system in Syria. The most livable cities our cities. Friends living all over Kurdistan should support us. We want a democratic Syria where everyone lives together. Our people in Bakûr gave great support during the Kobanê resistance. Great heroism took place. Kurds in Bakûr can play this role again."
