AMED - In a statement made in Amed against the attacks on North and East Syria, "Let's grow the resistance and protect the democratic and free life model" call made.
Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) and Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) made a statement in front of the DEM Party building in Amed's (Diyarbakır) Peyas (Kayapınar) district. “Rojava rûmeta me ye (Rojava is our honour)” banner was unfurled during the statement.
DBP Amed Provincial Co-Chair Mehmet Şirin Gürbüz pointed to the fall of the Baath regime in Syria and said: “The door to a new process has opened for the Syrian civil war that has been going on since 2011. As of December 8, the existence of an authoritarian regime that ignored the democracy and freedom demands of the peoples of Syria and Rojava came to an end. This opened the door to a historic opportunity for the democratic future of Syria and Rojava.”
REACTION TO THE ATTACKS
Stressing that there is a historical opportunity to find a solution in Syria through dialogue, Gürbüz said: "For this reason Rojava and Syria today more than ever need dialogue on a democratic ground and policies that will bring a solution. However, in such a process, attacks against Rojava continue. The targeting of Rojava, especially since November 27, not only undermines the solution discussions, but also deepens the Syrian crisis. It is unacceptable to target Rojava at a time when the Syrian civil war is evolving into a new process after the fall of the Baath regime."
'THE TARGET IS THE WOMEN'S REVOLUTION'
Democratic life model is being realized in North and East Syria said Gürbüz and added: “In addition, the spirit of internationalist struggle against the nation-state codes, the democratic life model and the women's revolution are the targets of the attacks. The targeting of Rojava threatens the future of not only the Kurdish people but also the peoples of Syria. Because the new model of life built in Rojava is the only solution to the crises in the Middle East today. We would like to emphasize that as DBP, we did not remain silent in the face of these attacks yesterday and we will not remain silent today. We will continue to defend Rojava in the strongest way. We would like to take this opportunity to state that we will continue our struggle with determination.”
'DO NOT REMAIN SILENT' CALL
Gürbüz continued as follows: “Targeting Rojava is targeting the peoples' demands for freedom and democracy. It is a historical duty and responsibility to stand against political understandings that target such a model. In this direction, we call on all democratic forces and international public opinion not to remain silent in the face of the attacks targeting Rojava and to be a voice for anti-war and freedom struggle. On this basis, it should be essential to protect Rojava, which protects the peoples of Syria, especially women and children, against ISIS barbarism, and concrete steps should be taken in this direction. Remaining silent against every attack and massacre against Rojava paves the way for war crimes. For this reason, our call is for everyone; let's grow the line of struggle and resistance in all areas of life and protect the democratic-free life model for our future.”
The statement ended with slogans.
