Journalist Eylem Babayiğit was detained in the house were she was staying at night as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Babayiğit was taken to Istanbul Security Directorate.
On the other hand, journalists Necla Demir, Rahime Karvar, Ahmet Güneş, Welat Ekin, Vedat Örüç and Reyhan Hacıoğlu, who were detained in house raids on 17 January through the same investigation, were arrested due to "illegal organization membership". The journalists were charged for their news reports and discussion programmes. Evaluations on the isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan were also among the charges levelled against the journalists.
