ISTANBUL - The "Freedom Watch" action started in Strasbourg demanding the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan has entered its 14th year.
The "Freedom Watch" action, which was launched on 25 June 2012 in Strasbourg, France under the leadership of the "Initiative for the Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan" and continued uninterruptedly, entered its 14th year.
The vigil, which was launched to ensure the physical freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, continues in the area where institutions such as the Council of Europe (CoE), the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the European Parliament (EP) are located.
Thousands of people from all over Europe have participated in the protest so far. The vigil, which is not limited to the demand for physical freedom, also aims to promote the thoughts of Abdullah Öcalan, to make the struggle of the Kurdish people visible and to create public pressure on international organisations to take responsibility.
The vigil, which continues 7 days a week without interruption, has reached its 680th week. This week the action was taken over by members of the Democratic Kurdish Society Centre from Bern, Switzerland. Dilovan Soğun, Metin Mintaş and Mehmet Leblebici are in this week's vigil group.
