'The judicial year ends before Şenyaşar family is paid their debt for justice'

URFA - Visiting the Şenyaşar family and drawing attention to the judicial holiday, İHD Urfa Branch Co-Chair Mustafa Vefa said: "We are closing this judicial year as well, before we pay our debt of justice to the Şenyaşar family."

The Justice Watch carried out by the Şenyaşar family has reached day 472. The sit-in was launched on  March 9, 2021 by Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons as a result of the attack carried out by AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız's bodyguards and relatives in the Suruç province of Urfa, on June 14, 2018. Emine Şenyaşar could not come before the Urfa Courthouse because she was going to testify at the Suruç Courthouse on the grounds that she had "insulted" AKP's Yıldız, based on the words she said during the sit-in. There are 16 different investigations and 5 lawsuits against Emine Şenyaşar, whose statement will be taken upon instruction within the scope of the lawsuit filed by the Ankara 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance. Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the Urfa Courthouse and started the sit-in on the stairs of the building. Ferit Şenyaşar was visited by Mustafa Vefa, Co-chair of the Human Rights Association (İHD) Urfa Branch.

Evaluating the family's struggle for justice during the visit, Vefa said: “The Şenyaşar family has been sitting in front of this courthouse for 472 days. As attorneys, we see this family as we come to the courthouse, our workplace, every day. Every time we pass by them, we, the defense, which is a pillar of the judiciary, are sorry for the injustice. We are deeply affected by the fact that justice is not provided despite all our legal efforts. Prosecutors and judges, who enter this courthouse with us every day, need to monitor this situation, just as we are saddened by not being able to do anything and provide justice as we pass by here every day. People have been demanding justice here for 472 days and they are sitting at this door, demanding justice. Every day, when prosecutors come here with their vehicles, they see Ferit and Emine Şenyaşar, and now they must put an end to this cruelty and injustice.”

JUDICIAL YEAR IS CLOSING WITHOUT SERVING JUSTICE'

Pointing out that there is less than a month left for the judicial recess, Vefa said, “The decree of judges and prosecutors has been issued and new appointments have been made. There have been many changes of judges and prosecutors during the 472 day sit-in of the family. We are closing this judicial year as well before they have paid their debt of justice. The judicial year is being closed before the legal and justified demands of Emine Şenyaşar are met. Emine Şenyaşar is on trial for the words she said in front of the courthouse. Emine Şenyaşar was summoned to testify in Suruç with an instruction from 'above'.  'Justice' works fast on these issues."

'JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED'

Stating that many lawsuits have been filed against Emine Şenyaşar because of the words she said during the sit-in, Vefa said: "There is no progress in the investigation file regarding the brutal murder of 3 people. Something is done for show, but a fair investigation is not carried out. These people (Şenyaşar family) sit here every day so that there could be a fair trial. We want Emine Şenyaşar to lead a peaceful life in her own home. The fact that an old woman sits here under the sun every day reveals its human dimension as well as its legal dimension. These people should not sit here any longer, justice should be provided. After justice is served, these people will stop their sit-in. This is our expectation and hope.”

After participating in the sit-in for a while, Vefa left the courthouse.

'EMİNE IS A MOTHER'

The family shared the following message from their Twitter account: “Emine is a mother. Her husband and two sons were murdered in a state hospital. One son has been wrongfully put in a single cell for 4 years. One of his sons is staging the sit-in in front of the Urfa Courthouse with her. Emine Şenyaşar is being tried as a defendant in Suruç Courthouse today. Victim is MP Yıldız.”
