DİYARBAKIR - Erxenî Municipality Council member Ceylan Aslan was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for the press statements she participated in.

The lawsuit filed against Erxenî (Ergani) Municipal Council member Ceylan Aslan, who was dismissed by the Ministry of Interior, on the grounds of press statements, meetings, actions and events regarding the hunger strike initiated by Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Leyla Güven, and participating in actions and events organized by her party. His trial was held at Diyarbakır 11th High Criminal Court.

At the hearing, which Aslan did not attend, his lawyer Zilan Doğru was present. The prosecution, which gave their opinion, argued that the governor's office had issued a ban regarding the actions taken for Güven, and that Aslan "participated in these actions and other organized events with a call for an organization". On the aforementioned grounds, it has been claimed that Aslan "has hierarchical relations with the organization, has organic ties to the organization, knowingly acted in line with the aims of the organization". It was demanded that Aslan be punished for "being a member of a terrorist organization" and "violating the law on demonstrations and meeting marches".

The court accepted the request for additional defense against the opinion and adjourned the hearing to September 27.
