AMED - Representatives of professional journalist organisations reacted to the threats against our reporter Zeynep Durgut over her news report and stressed that those who threatened her should be put on trial.
Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporter Zeynep Durgut was threatened by the relatives of Kenan Tatar, whose name was mentioned in the news report on "prostitution gang". Representatives of journalist professional organisations in Amed (Diyarbakır) reacted against the threats against their colleagues.
BOLTAN: GOVERNMENT MUST NOT IGNORE THE THREAT
Hakkı Boltan, DİSK Press-Work Amed Representative, said, "We must support Zeynep Durgut so that gangs do not hinder journalism. The government must not ignore the threat."
ORAL: WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT
Mahmut Oral, Turkey Journalists’ Union (TGS) Amed Representative, stated, "Zeynep Durgut’s life and journalism are under threat. The public’s right to accurate news is also endangered. TGS will continue to provide legal support."
BOZARSLAN: THREATENER MUST BE PROSECUTED
Felat Bozarslan, President of the Southeastern Journalists Association, said, "Our colleague’s safety is the responsibility of public institutions in Şırnak. The person threatening her must be prosecuted immediately."
ÇİÇEK: THREATS CANNOT MAKE RETREAT
Selman Çiçek, Co-Chair of the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association, added, "Zeynep’s reports are a journalistic achievement. Threats cannot make her or free press retreat. We will continue exposing those who evade punishment."
